Unstable Boi have released five new tracks in 2024 so far, and this review is about their track ‘Pry’.
For fans of The Streets, Young Fathers and other alternative hip hop and spoken word rap artists.

Starting in Leicester, UK back in 2008, when Ryan and James united as ‘Great Imitation’. Their journey includes triumphs like winning the esteemed Surface Unsigned competition, electrifying crowds at UK festivals and Sziget Festival in Budapest. Garnering recognition from Kerrang! and BBC Introducing, their fusion of alternative hip-hop, guitar, and explosive performances made a lasting impact.
Following a hiatus, they resurfaced in 2016 with the EP “iamgrim,” delving into darker, heavier tones. Now, in 2024, they’ve reinvented themselves as electronic/emo hip hop group, “Unstable Boi,’ embracing a new sound that brings a new era in their musical journey.
James explains Unstable boy as,
“SadRap for sad times, unflinchingly and uncomfortably vulnerable. Our explorations of mental health, and ultimately, redemption are the soundtrack for the worst house party of your life”.
Their track ‘Pry’ is absolutely stunning, where the lyrics hit hard, referencing mental health struggles, and the importance of talking about how you’re feeling. It’s great to see an artist doing this, especially when it comes to encouraging men that it’s ok to talk about their mental health. Really showing that a phone call or a catch up can make a difference, and a good friend and love is all someone needs.
I think it’s honestly one of my favourite tracks of 2024 so far because of how it made me feel. The aspect especially that I always try and be that person that reaches out to my mates to check up on them, and encourage them to talk about their emotions.
I’ll be sharing this track with a good few friends for sure! I love it, it’s a great comeback track!
