Homecoming UK – POP PUNK FROM WISH

Tim Marshall

West Midlands, UK based pop punk band Homecoming UK have recently released their new EP ‘POP PUNK FROM WISH’ on 7th June.

Homecoming UK established back in 2022 and they are really starting to find their sound, especially with the melodic pop punk style on ‘POP PUNK FROM WISH’.

According to guitarist and lead vocalist Michael,

“The EP is called “POP PUNK FROM WISH” and is styled like “One More Time” after someone commented that we were Blink-182 off Wish”

Lol. What a brilliant way of using negative feedback and making it positive! They really are embracing the #budgetblink style within the EP.

‘POP PUNK FROM WISH’ is an emotionally charged and well written EP, with songs exploring mental health, relationships and friendships experienced by the members of the band.

The first track on the EP has a brilliant name… ‘BJS IN YOUR PJS. The track is about a relationship where the parties see contrasting outcomes with their futures being placed side by side in the final chorus. This is cleverly done with one vocal line saying, “You can have a future here with me” whilst the other says “There’s a future somewhere but it isn’t here with me”.

The second track ‘Empty Notoriety’ is the lead track on the EP featuring Laura Whiston of Beach Front. It’s a song written about those Z list celebrities who happen to enter and remain in the public eye, creating pointless talentless content and merely existing.  We all know what kind of celebrities they are talking about, especially TikTok celebrities!

‘DKMS’ has a truly incredible meaning behind it, and Michael told us about it here,

“I wanted to write a song about my
experience donating stem cells last year, though the charity DKMS.

It came about after seeing the post on social media for Ashley Cain’s daughter. I’d recently become a first time parent, and it brought me to tears. I registered there and then.

2 years later I got an email saying I’d matched with someone! I went ahead with it all, obviously, and my stem cells are now with some dude in France!”

Michael you are one incredible guy, kudos to you!

The penultimate track on the ‘POP PUNK FROM WISH’ EP, SHATTERED ECHOES, HEALING NOTES’ is about Michael’s recent struggle with depression and how he was able to continue with the support of his friends and family. Remember, there’s always someone out there to talk to.

This brings me onto a point that I haven’t even released yet… Punkio is in talks with a mental health clothing company and charity to collaborate with in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled for more!

The final track, ‘MY D20 JUST ROLLS ELEVEN’ is the bands homage to the incredible Stranger Things. If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll be able to hear the clever guitar melody throughout the track that sounds similar to the ST soundtrack, well play Homecoming UK, well played!

Overall I’m impressed with this EP as it covers many issues that a lot of people go through on a daily basis, as well as learning about the incredible work DKMS do! I look forward to hearing more from Homecoming UK in the near future!
