‘KARMAGEDDON’ is the perfect name for this EP by the Alternativecore gods known as Aim High and Calebjustcaleb and they have honestly smashed it out of the park with this release. Released at the start of April ‘KARMAGEDDON’ is a mixture of Hyperpop, Emo and Trap.
They described their EP as a “singular exploration of this particular soundscape for Aim High” and “a timely and harmonious fusion”. They took the words right out of my mouth because this EP is one of my top releases of all time!
Starting with the title track, “KARMAGEDDON,” the EP immediately delivers a wall of sound, featuring crunchy basslines and a catchy chorus. This track transitions into a smooth vibe and rap verse that explores the intricacies of heartbreak. The complexity and layering within this single track are remarkable, and the harmonious chorus hits just right.
Moving to my personal favorite track of the EP, “DELETETHISRNBBY” maintains a high tempo throughout. The raw power and angst of the vocals, combined with the driving drums, guide listeners through the different stages of grief. The song’s energy is palpable, keeping you on your feet and entranced by its stellar production.
Slowing down for the next track, “BLISTERED” hints at a beautiful blend of Math Rock and Hyperpop. The falsetto in the chorus captures your attention, while the powerful drums and background vocals add depth, making for a stunning soundscape.
Track number four, “Fractured Blur,” evokes 30 Seconds to Mars with its melodic guitar and vocals, before transforming in the chorus with a crunchy bassline and synth layers. The seamless genre transitions highlight the band’s versatility and skill.
“GRAVITY” follows, featuring darker, distorted guitars that mix Trap, Emo, and Rock elements. The raspy vocals and insightful lyrics add depth to this powerful track.
The EP concludes with “WISHING WELL,” a blend of crunchy guitars, deep basslines, and punchy drums. This track could signal the beginning of a new era in Alternative Rock. Aim High and Calebjustcaleb have crafted a groundbreaking EP that may inspire a new generation of artists.
