REDSIX – Part I: Diagnostics

REDSIX, alternative rock band from Jakarta, Indonesia released their latest EP ‘Part I: Diagnostics’ back in January this year.

I was scrolling through Musosoup when I came across REDSIX, and from the first note on ‘Nuclear Shadows’ (second track on their three track EP) I was hooked and knew I had to review ‘Part I: Diagnostics’.

According to lead vocalist Denny,

“While these songs boast diverse narratives, they are interwoven by a common thread drawn from the challenging life experiences of each band member. Each song has a different story, but the overall theme of this single is about the challenging points we face as we age and gain experience”.

The opening track titled ‘D&D, But Not The Fun Kind (Death & Divorces)’ shares the band’s emotional depths experienced throughout their lives. Specifically, the song draws its  emotional energy from the heartfelt losses, whether that be the death of a loved one or the complexities of
relationship breakdowns.

The track that resonates with me the most on the EP is ‘Nuclear Shadows’‘ which reflects on the darker side of relationships, be it a love interest or friendship. It serves as a reminder that everybody that enters your life, leaves a mark at some point, creating valuable stories for generations to come.

The third and final track ‘et al’ is the track on the EP that really makes you think , urging listeners to escape from those misleading thoughts – a powerful outlet that has created a meaningful and incredible track!

It’s not often I come across an EP that I enjoy as much as I did with ‘Part I: Diagnostics’. And boy I’m glad I did, it’s shot up my list of favourite releases of 2024!
