UK based Metalcore band Downpour have released their debut EP ‘Hope’, and it doesn’t disappoint!
Downpour are a powerhouse metalcore band from the UK. Having only started this year, their energy, catchy riffs and brutal vocals, has already firmly found their space in the UK metalcore scene.
They were formed on a shared love for melodic hardcore music and a desire to push boundaries.
Their lyrics delve into topics such as of the human resilience, struggle, and defiance.
The first track on the ‘Hope’ EP is ‘Dissonant’, which is the intro track, talking about the whole theme of the album, mental health and dealing with loss.
‘Footsteps’ the second track, drops straight in with the familiar melodic hardcore sound and heavy Metalcore vocals, engaging the listener straight from the start. This is one incredible song, that hits deep with lyrics about regret about the relationship with Richard’s (lead vocalist) father, and continues with a heavy melodic sound throughout.
Downpours first single, and the third track on the ‘Hope’ EP, ‘Losing Grip‘ was released on 8th March 2024, and has been featured on BBC RADIO 1.
Lead singer Richard talked about the meaning of ‘Losing Grip’,
‘Our debut single is about the weight of personal problems taking
an impact on mental health. The song touches on grieving over
the passing of my father and a relationship breaking down during
the grieving process.’
A very touching sentiment within the lyrics and one that will resonate with many of the current and future fans.
The fourth track ‘Break Me’, isn’t as heavy instrumentally as the previous two tracks, but hits hard again with the fantastically brutal vocals.
Richard says,
‘Break Me focuses solely on my mental health at the time of writing
and my approach to life. When you’re feeling in a low headspace
it’s not always easy to change your thought patterns and this song
focuses on the other end of that where the pressures take over and
push your further down into that dark mental space.’
This is my favourite track on the album because of the emotion and meaning within the lyrics, triggering times in my life where I’ve felt similar.
The final track on the EP is ‘Validation’ which emphasises the thoughts behind not needing to rely on anyone in life and being your own person. The track is the perfect way to end one insanely good EP.
Richard adds,
‘Validation is about the realisation in that you should never rely on
anyone for your own happiness, or feel the need to be validated by
someone and their opinion of you.’
With their sights set on the future, Downpour is set on making a lasting impact in the heavy music scene. And after listening to their EP, I’m pretty sure they will!
All in all ‘Hope’ is a very well written EP lyrically and instrumentally, full of emotion and emphasis on the importance of talking about mental health issues. I can’t wait for new music from this very talented band.
Downpour are set to play Burn It Down
Festival this Summer, as well as multiple tours and support dates set for the next year and further.
