GUY – Gimme

Liverpool, UK based grunge, punk, alternative rock artist GUY has released his latest single ‘Gimme’.

GUY classifies his music as ‘hardpunkfusionpop’ which merges styles from across punk, grunge, hardcore and alternative rock.

GUY and his band The Gunpowder Plot

With 3 albums and a collection of EPs with grungy, alternative sounds and anthemic choruses released since 2019, alongside his band The Gunpowder Plot GUY has firmly found his feet in the UK alternative music scene.

With GUY’s new track ‘Gimme’ if I’m being honest, at first I thought it was ‘too grungy’ for me. But after listening a few times, I honestly grew to like the track quite a bit!

Here’s what Guy had to say about ‘Gimme’,

“Lyrically, I often find what I’m actually writing about comes into focus after I’ve written the whole thing, like being too close to a painting, and stepping back to get the full picture. In this case when I stepped back I realised Gimme was about grasping at straws in a moment of spiralling out of control – I was in some fairly intensive therapy at the time and felt like I had deconstructed a lot of my identity and was piecing it back together, and so looking for lifelines and hope to hold onto as I got a better idea of what kind of person I am.”

I really understand why he doesn’t conform to a certain genre, within all his music you have grunge, punk and metal sounding instrumentals and vocals chopping and changing throughout. Great job, it definitely keeps the listener on their toes!

I’m now a fan of GUY’s music and will be following him closely to hear more great tracks in the near future.

Check it ‘Gimme’ below, along with the instrumental and demo versions of the track.
