Mirror Glass – High Regard

Hello Punkio Fans! Hope we’re all having a lovely start to September.

Bringing us into the pathetic fallacy of Autumn and the more depressing months (weather wise) Hertfordshire based Alternative band ‘High Regard’ released their latest single “Mirror Glass” on the 5th September.

High Regard consists of Georgia Casey (vocals), Matt Smith (Bass) & Tom Townsend (Guitar). Originally from Hertfordshire, Georgia and Tom met during their time in college and proudly added in Matt later in their search for a Bassist. Already they’ve played incredible shows including 2000 Trees and Burn It Down festival. Also, Back in 2023, Nels Hylton from Radio 1 awarded High Regard “Radio 1’s Future Alternative Best UK Band of 2023” which is a massive achievement that they’ll surely take to the grave.

For all fans of PVRIS, Spirtbox and some hints of SeeYouSpaceCowboy we are begging you to go and check out this amazing single from High Regard! Starting off the track with an anticipated buildup layered with synths and drums we are struck with this immense punch of energy pushing us right into the chorus gracing our ears with an incredibly tight snare sound and crunchy distorted guitars.

Vocalist Georgia Casey shares:

“Mirror Glass delves into the themes of loss and grief that permeate life. The mirror glass serves as a metaphor for the afterlife, with the overarching theme exploring what happens beyond and how this loss impacts those left behind. The chord progression originated from a liquid DnB track I was working on, where I later incorporated a recurring melody, along with layers of synths and guitars. The full demo took shape shortly after the passing of a family member.”

Returning to the powerhouse play that is ‘Mirror Glass’, the verses are introduced by a serene tapping section from Tom lead by Georgia’s expressive vocals painting us a picture right back into the Chorus, this time with an interesting half time switch up in the middle. Such an artistic and effective artist choice which they’ve blown us out of the water with.

Finally onto the bridge which is gracing us with some raspy, raw and expressive screams layered underneath the harmonious vocals driving us back into a stripped back version of the chorus until that wall of sound just HITS and bestows us with a great send off for the end of the track.

High Regard are a force to be reckoned with, do not sleep on this band because I can see them being the next big hit! Check them out on all socials linked below.

We’ve added High Regard “Mirror Glass” to our alternative rock playlist ‘Punkio’s Alternative Rock Picks’.
