Oceans & Omens – II: Aether

There must be something in the water over there in Australia when it comes to making the phenomenal “core” genres of metal. Five piece heavy weights Oceans & Omens are reinforcing that currently with their debut album release, “II: Aether”.

Over here at Punkio we are excited for you all to listen to this spectacular album and read our review.

Oceans & Omens have proved they are a force to be reckoned with in the Australian metalcore scene appearing live alongside Melbourne acts Banks Arcade, local scene heavyweights Patient Sixty-Seven, and Pincer+.

The album starts off with the track “Limbo”. The song clearly draws influences from multiple genres of metal that comes together so audibly clear while coming off silky smooth. Instrumentally you feel as if you’re being played out as you march to battle with the vocals hitting fiercely almost signifying the clash of battle when the blades finally meet in the middle.

The following song titled “Desolation” has an almost eerie yet beautiful sound to it that’s reminiscent of the infamous black metal sounds that have blessedly plagued Norway and Sweden especially for so many decades now. The song continues to develop as it goes and becomes quite an enchanting song that hooks the listener in with its refusal to sound repetitive.

“The Voidsworn” will transport you back to the beginning days of metalcore with that nostalgic simple, melodic, yet heavy brand of metalcore like that of the 90s & 00s.

“Final Breath” is such a strong song that I’d venture far enough to state that it would really help cement this album in as a possible contender for anyone’s metalcore album of the year. This song has everything you could want in a metalcore song. Seriously, think of your favorite things that make up a great metalcore jam and this tune has it!

Honestly a stellar album. I’m very excited to hear what the future holds for this group and what they put out next. I cannot recommend this listen enough. Below you can find the links to their social media and streaming accounts. Thanks for reading!

We’ve also added Oceans & Omen’s track “Limbo” to our Punkio’s Metal Picks Spotify playlist!
